There is probably a printed version of the reference manual that you
can buy, but the PDF download is better in that you can print the
pages you will actually use and they will actually be big enough to
use. I bought one once and it was a 4-up photocopy of the PDF --
unusable.
I agree that the way they have handled reference manuals is pretty disgraceful.
