I shudder to think how long ago I was in Afghanistan. I went
there four or five times between 1972 and 1975, on vacation
from Iran, where I was a Peace Corps volunteer and English
teacher.
There was an elegance and majesty to both the people and the
landscape that I can't really put into words. I was there
before any of the coups or wars, which started in 1976. I
also would love to go back someday, but don't think that it
will be possible in the foreseeable future.
OM reference:
I took over 1400 color slides of Iran and Afghanistan, with a
Pentax Spotmatic until I replaced it with an OM-1 in 1974. I
used Agfa CT18 slide film because Ektachrome was more
difficult to find and much more difficult to get processed.
Unfortunately, CT18's dyes have not been stable, and the
slides have suffered fron severe fading and color shift.
Some day I will get a film scanner and see what kind of
restorative magic software can perform.
