Hi,
I have recently been experimenting with a new (to me) sharpening
technique. I was getting frustrated with halos and sharpening artefacts
in my bokeh but this technique seems to address these issues.
What it comes down to is:
Only the edges are sharpened - thus leaving bokeh in tact.
Only the luminosity channel is sharpened - which apparently means any
noise won't get sharpened.
The full description is here:
http://www.gimpguru.org/Tutorials/SmartSharpening2/
The tutorial is for GIMP but was originally for PS and there is a link
from this page to the original PS version.
The main downside for me was how long it took to apply this technique to
an image - just remembering what to do in what order was a challenge. So
for any GIMP users out there I have created a GIMP plug-in that
automates the procedure, while still allowing control over the parameters.
I'm interested to hear if anyone else has tried this technique or
something similar.
Drop me a off-list message if you want the plug-in.
Regards,
Mike.
