I thought I was shooting my last roll of Kodachrome for the Odyssey, but that
now appears not to be so. While looking for something in one of the camera
cabinets this morning, far in the back I came across five Kodachrome processing
mailers. I'm notoriously disorganized and forgetful, but I did seem to recall
making an effort a couple of years ago to be sure that the Kodachrome and
mailers came out even.
As I stood there holding them, I was reminded of one of my college roommates,
who I often heard to mutter as he was trying to get dressed amid the squalor in
which we lived, "I have two feet; therefore, I must have two shoes." So, I
figured since I have five mailers, I must have five more rolls of Kodachrome.
A search of the little beer, Cokes and film fridge found five rolls of
Kodachrome hiding behind a stack of four 25-sheet boxes of 6x9cm Ilford HP5.
So, it looks like my Kodachrome shooting days ain't over yet. The five rolls
are 15 months out of date, but they've never been off refrigeration since I've
had them. And anyway, since I didn't know I had either film or mailers, it's
all like free stuff now, like money found in the street.
