[OM] Pass codes for List Members

Is there a designated code phrase for identifying list members found via
serendipitous meetings in public venues? Michael Crosby from New South
Wales Australia looked surprised as he stood next to me on the Staten Island
Ferry in New York City this past week. Both of us on different family
holiday trips but by chance standing on the same narrow top floor outside
seating area of the ferry so that we could view the Statue Of Liberty.

As I changed lenses several times on my OM2n he commented, "you don't see
many OM's these days" which prompted me to paraphrase the NRA battle cry
(disclaimer - I'm not and probably will never be a member) - "From my cold
dead hands". Actually I should have said, "From my cold dead analog film
loading, manual focusing, zuiko mounting hands". Fortunately Mike was quick
to ask if I was an OM list member and I affirmed in my reply, "and how many
OM's do you own?". Yes - I thought momentarily that I might have replaced
Buck Henry in an Olympus version of "Digital Heaven Can Wait" with Mike
staring as Warren Beatty proclaiming one of us was having a harbor ferry
dream - they mean good luck, don't they?

Michael - if you've already posted about our chance meeting - my apologies -
for I am still reading the treasure of posts which finally arrived from this
list after a week's vacation. Of the recent (and somewhat periodic) query -
"What's Up With This List" from other members - I can only say as a very
very infrequent contributor I take great pleasure at reading all of the
comments from this list and pass on my thanks for the posts which continue
to spur my interest in photography.

I selected the 28mm 3.5 lens for most of my trip to NYC and Washington DC
because it is the least used of my small collection. Results were very nice
indeed with a postcard quality shot of the Washington Monument being a good
reminder to put the lens to better use in coming years but only of course at
or above f5.6 as Gary's tests prove out. My 75-260mm 4.5 vivitar (one of
the most under appreciated large pieces of glass) helped me capture the
snipers on top of the White House - (probably one of the hottest jobs to
have as summer temps will most certainly rise) as well as an osprey family
on a nest stand in a CT salt marsh. My film has been developed and printed
by the specialists at Sam's Club One Hour processing and has even been
placed in PrintFile sleeves. The digital shots taken by my teenage daughter
with her digicam are still waiting home PC processing. Ah, the speed of
analog devices!

Warm regards

Scott
