Last year we noticed a black and white cat hanging around. It was very
friendly and would walk right up to us. At first it was quite plump, as
time passed, the weight dropped off and I felt it was the least i could
do to feed him/her. cat appeared to be abandoned. How could someone do
that? So, I invested in some dry Purina, some canned food and the cat
seemed very appreciative. The cat even stayed inside overnight a couple
of times. THEN it would disappear for 3-5 days at a time, but would
come back expecting food and lodging. (I instantly recalled a similar
story read here some time ago) THEN I noticed the cat smelled of "old
lady perfume", tipping me off this cat now had atleast one other home.
That's where I ended the emotional investment.
Cat still comes around, but when it sees there's no food, it just walks
away.
