I have the "Adorama" rail. It is bulky, you get that because of the dual
axis capability. Unlike the dislike by John Shaw of such a rail, I do find
the left / right adjustment useful. You can disassemble it and make it just
a one way rail. I've got this mounted on a quick release for a Manfrotto
3275 gear head and I've got a Acratech quick release mounted on top of the
rail. It is a tall kludge. When working at 1:1 or greater, it is nice to
have a GEARED mechansim to adjust the focus.
