I haven't done big prints yet. I do occasionally do 8x10s of highly
cropped images, which is similar in a way.
I do, however, contemplate doing large prints and think and research
what I might do to assure good results.
I've previously posted a link to a test I did a while ago on up-sampling
alternatives available to me at modest cost. So far, I've not printed
the samples, only viewed them at full pixel. You are welcome to download
and print the test, if you wish.
Others, who do bigger prints than I, have proposed that such differences
at full pixel often don't show up in actual prints. I assume that would
at least partially depend on the size of the print. And it sounds like
you may be headed to mega print land. In any case, I can't see where
more and sharper detail can possibly degrade the quality of the print.
Given the obvious improvement that the winner of my test provides over
the built-in PS alternatives and it's very modest cost, it seems like a
no brainer to me.
I compared the three PS Bicubic options to generic stair interpolation
in the form of Fred Miranda's version to his camera specific Resize Pro.
I used an image from the 6 mp 300D, but I would guess that results from
the E-1 version of the software will be similar. I'm sure the basic
techniques remain the same, adjusted for the pixel dimensions of the
individual camera <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/tech/resize.htm>.
