First of all, I've got to say that Tokina has their act together
on this particular hunk o glass. It has been a constant
evolution of design since the beginning of the company. It is
extremely flat-fielded--and sharp!

Secondly, this focus issue you identify with the Tokina is
probably the reason you are seeing poor center focus with the
manual lenses. They are NOT flat-fielded, and I'm thinking that
the actual intercepted plane of focus (which is curved with
non-flat-fielded lenses) is farther out on the sensor. If you
are experienceing an altered focus screen position (Others have
complained of their 5D not manually focusing correctly either)
then this would help explain this oddity.

I think we've finally seen the evolution of the lens reach
another level. Most older lenses are definitely running up
against a brick wall in resolution as compared to the modern
lens. These things are staggeringly sharp. Combined with a thin
AA filter and a sensor that essentially has no lateral halation
we are definitely getting far beyond our wildess dreams as
compared to film.
