This is what I do. Big slow drives are cheap enough, but are not as
reliable as tape.

I've been running Retrospect for many years. Available on Macs,
Linux, and Windows. I've personally used Retrospect on Macs and on
Windows. Works very well, and can be scripted to do periodic backup
at night. Retrospect comes from Dantz, which was recently bought by
EMC. I just bought a MacOS 10 version from EMC.
