That seems to be a universal trait amongst electronics hackers. I must admit
to having developed an extended vocabulary myself after working with
"experimental" grade software for a number of years. :)

Yes, that's the worst case.
I have a few cameras with mercury batteries. When not in use, I take the
batteries out, put them in a small bag, and clip it to the camera.
