Transferential issues with our spouse with regard to creative
outlets can be a stressful point. It is not a matter for understanding
but of acceptance. One of the greatest detriments to creativity
is perceived judgments. I was just reading in my most favorite
photography book: "the Tao of Photograpy: seeing beyond seeing"
Philippe Gross and S.I. Shapiro. In the chapter on Barriers to Seeing
is a list of what blocks our creativity.
1. The need to conform, to win approval, to be a member of the group -
inability to disagree, to be unpopular, to stand alone.
... and the list goes on.
no one can predict what will result from following urges that you
cannot justify. Some things are bigger than ourselves.
I was fortunate to have my zuikoholic phase during a time I did
not have to justify myself to anyone. Now, anew relationship, now
a wife, I can buy photo gear with impunity, and merely say, well
I sold this to buy this. works like a charm.
But the relationship can improve greatly when you have a few
outstanding photos you can frame and hang on the wall.
Fortunate is the man/woman whose spouse supports their
creative outlet, and challenge them, but does not judge them.
