Excellent Piers!
Yes, I was the deputy commander of the Coalition Air Ops Centre of Op
Northern Watch for 4 months. But during March while the Feast of
Sacrifice was on, the Turks (military) did not want to have to
monitor our activities so they forbade us from flying for a week.
We worked for 13 days on the trot to make up for it, had a stonking
party on the 13th night and set off, with a hangover for the frozen
wastes of the Anatolian Plain and Capadocia the next morning!
It was a fascinating trip, with the blood of many sacrifices running
down many of the roads we travelled. We visited loads of the
troglodyte places, including Kale Uchisar, near Nevşehir.
I should really like to return there, with my wife, so see the places
and visit the (very friendly) people again.
