We don't really "get" Gatlinburg all that much either, and you are very
unlikely to spot us in town between the hours of 8:00 a.m and 7:00 p.m. It's a
place to eat and sleep and watch the tourists waddle about buying the kind of
junk tourists like to buy. We always stay at the Midtown Lodge, which is near
the park end of town, and a typical day has us up and at Waldo Pepper's or one
of the pancake houses for breakfast by 7:00 a.m., then into the mountains all
day and back to G'burg in time for a leisurely dinner at Howard's,
Lineberger's, The Timbers, or any of a half dozen places within a two- or
three-block stroll from the hotel, after which we people watch till time to go
beddy-bye so we can get up early the next day and do it all over again. :-)
