I visited Death Valley just after all the recent flooding and the
partial reconstitution of ancient Lake Manley. When I left I drove
west to Owens Valley and the Sierra Range was spectacular, like a
continuous wall of ice and snow coming down to almost the desert
valley floor. I realized then I had never been to Owens Valley in the
winter. I don't ski. Completely different.
