Hmm...
I was one of those people consulted about buying a camera; this time for
my Mum and Dad. The sales were on, so off we went with my research, such
as it was. Probably going to get the small Lumix which was reduced.
Ended up with an SP500UZ as suddenly they didn't like the handling of
the little blocks and wanted a viewfinder and the long zoom, which is
fine. The SP has good handling. I did have that little bit of
favouritism for an Oly. Price was reduced etc too.
Now I worry more about the lack of IS with the long zoom for them. It
didn't strike me until later, as I have never used IS except with a
tripod etc. It rankles that a technological fix to poor photographic
technique is the major selling point (or non-selling point in this
case), but it might be better for many. Mind you, my Dad in his
methodical way said he will go through the manual one day. One of the
0.1 %, so they may be alright.
BUT, the bigger problem I worry about is the fact that the camera was a
lemon. Battery drain was ridiculous. Store replaced it, but very
disconcerting when buying a plastic fantastic camera. I don't have too
many hopes for longevity, TBH.
