Joel -
FWIW - I purchased an LCD protector for my E300 soon after I bought the camera.
Truthfully, I do not even notice it is there. The plastic is very clear and
does not seem to adversely affect my viewing of the screen even in low light
situations or odd angles. Also, I cannot find any scratches on the plastic
after over six months of moderate usage.
At first I thought it was kinda strange to put something like this on a brand
new camera and "ruin" it. However it has become so that I do not even notice
that it is there, and actually last month when I noticed it I actually asked
myself "What is this?" Then I remembered that I had put it on. To me that
illustrates how little it is noticed during usage or after all these years I am
finally losing those last few memory cells.
I purchased the protector without any problems from these people:

Subject: [OM] LCD covers for E-1
It appears that the OEM plastic covers for the E-1 are on deep
backorder from Oly. Has anyone tried something like this on the LCD:
