With a 14mm equivalent angle of view, there isn't much to compare it with.
The lens has some barrel distortion at the wide end. It's susceptible to
flare and has a permanent tulip hood limiting what can be attached to it. I
often use my left hand to prevent flare. It's very large compared to OM
lenses. In addition it made my very nice 11-22 essentially useless.
But if you like wide angle lenses ... it's worth buying an E-system camera
just so that you can use this lens! If Olympus announced they were
discontinuing it without a better replacement, I would immediately buy a
spare!
An example showing the barrel distortion

Actually probably 95% of the pictures taken over the last year and a half on
that site were taken using the 7-14. Even the main picture for the monroe
property

was almost surely taken with the 7-14mm. There is a power pole with guy
wires limiting where a clean image can be taken ... the front yard isn't
very big. IMO the lens paid for my whole E-system.

Hi All:
A friend has asked me about the 7-14 zoom for the E series vs the other WA
zooms Oly has. Since I don't have an E 1 I don't have much to say. I know
that it is difficult to solicit an opinion on this list, but I appeal to you
all to not be so reticent and share your thoughts on the merits of this lens
or why another might be a better choice.
Thanks Gord
