I posted a link to this quaint bit of gummint foolishness mostly for its
entertainment value. It really doesn't bother me much at all. If you read it
closely, you will see that it only prohibits annonymous annnoying. As long as
the annoyer identifies himself (or herself) to the annoyee, no problem.
The act says, in pertinent part: "Whoever...utilizes any device or software
that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of
communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet...
without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or
harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under
title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Personally, if I have "intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person,"
I want to make damn sure they know it's me doing it, so this will have no
effect on me and will not affect how annoying I am -- for instance, like
deliberately using both "effect" and "affect" correctly in the same sentence
just to show off. :-)
