Good recommendations already if you want to roll your own, John. If
you're looking for something more "plug and play" and your ISP supports
php/MySQL, then take a look at the portal system from
http://www.xoops.org
Plug it in, configure it to use the pieces you want and to ignore the
pieces you don't need. Updates/additions are as easy as entering text or
uploading files, and php does the rest. Configurable "look" based on
lots of downloadable templates. Additional modules for additional
functions can be plugged in as well. Free.
