Right after posting my question about using linear vs circular polarizing
filters on light source vs lens,
I remembered a posting somewhere (perhaps even on this list) that gave a
quick and dirty method to determine
If a filter was linear or circular. Viewing an LCD screen (linear light
source) through a linear filter,
Rotating the filter will produce a variable ND filter to a total blockage of
light.
The circular filter darkens lightly with what appears to me to be a slight
color shift.
That brings me sort of back to my original question. Cirular on the lens -
linear on the source
Or
Circular at both ends?
I believe Piers is correct that you get a variable ND filter with linear vs
linear.
