This shouldn't happen. as a general rule, IS versions of lenses are
usually slightly less sharp than their non-IS versions when used in
optimal or test conditions - with the emphasis on the 'slightly.'
That is, it isn't noticeable except under rigorous examination.
So, there IS something wrong with the body's response to IS.
