James, your problem could be due to your monitor and scanner, you need a
good bright LCD rather than most CRTs to get the brilliant look. My
experience told me Minolta is not the most accurate color scanner, you may
want to try a Nikon which is much better. You will get very nice view (at
least better than projection) with the right tool but of course you can
never match a light box with loupe which has the highest dynamic range of
all view.
