Sorry, can't tell you anything about manufacturing QC of the day (circa
1972). My role at the time was production planning and we were trying
to figure out how much gold and/or palladium we would need to rebuild
the electronics of every IBM mainframe in the field... and, of course,
where we would get it and when.
Palladium was a real no-no. About the only place to get it was the
Soviet Union (good friends in 1972) and they required a one year lead
time on the order.
