Sony has announced an after warranty repair program for many of their
cameras due to a fault in their CCDs. Canon has also made a similar
announcement for their cameras that use Sony CCDs. Sony also supplies
to many other camera brands, so you may have some leverage if you
camera fails with a Sony CCD inside even though other makers have not
yet come forward.
