Roger,
One of the links on DPReview stated that the e-500 body is
polycarbonate; and while it isn't as sexy as brass, titanium and machined
aluminum, it IS mighty tough stuff.

In looking through the specs of the E-500 on the dpreview site, it seems to
have great specs for the price, but I did not like the one that said
'lightest D-SLR available'. Sure enough, lower down under body material, it
just said 'Plastic'. Does anyone have more information? I personally would
rather have a magnesium or alluminum chassis, even if it weighs a bit more.
