As mentioned before, ignoring the greater flange distance (which would
make infinity focus impossible), the lenses just aren't designed to
cover anything larger than a 35mm frame. The only exceptions I know of
would be the 2 shift lenses; they have a larger image circle so that
you can shift that circle around on the 35mm frame.
The 8mm would definitely not work because it doesn't even fully cover
a 35mm frame (that's why you get the round image in the middle of the
35mm frame).
