Agree about its unwieldiness, but I'm a big fan of this zoom.
At 85, it very sharp and has good contrast. But only focuses down to 2 m.
OTOH, It has *the unvaluable tripod mount*.
And good bokeh, certainly.

Cannot agree, at least with my sample, with a lesser performance beyond ~200
mm., even got awesome results coupling it to a 2X-A [do try it, seriously ->
only some slight barrel distortion, flare control depends], and to a 25mm
tube and even better, to a 65~116.

Drawbacks, aside from unwieldiness, is lack of depht of field marks (two
touch design, which I prefer....), and front element rotation while
focusing.
And it could have been at least f 3.5 or f 4 _ asking too much?
Anyway, focusing is easy enough with a 1-8 or a 1-10 (1-4)

Perhaps a little too sharp and contrasty for portraits, but main failures at
my attempts on this style have been poor lighting setup.

I enjoy this zoom quite a bit. Wish I could upload some pics for you to see.
And I'm not a zoom fan, much prefer the primes, but some 2 or 3 years ago I
heard an advice from Mr. Ling regarding zooms in general.

Fernando.
