Just for the record this is not a gloat. Someone on another list thought I
might be rubbing it, below is my reply:
Joyous as I am at the victory it is tinged with
sadness for the Australians. If they had pulled off the victory today, which
looked possible for too long for comfort, I would not have begrudged them
the win. They are special and I have almost as much affection for them as I
have for my own team.
I cannot recall ever feeling that way about any foreign team in any sport
and I am at a loss to explain it.
