With the proper ballast you can also make fluorescents dimmable using
ordinary dimmer controls. My kitchen is lit with daylight fluorescents
installed in coves above the cabinets and controlled by wall mounted
dimmers. You can't do this with ordinary fluorescents so be sure to
talk to your lighting folk about the special ballast required.
