Bill,
If you are just looking for a non powered grip I have seen the Olympus
version offered by Henry's on eBay for around $70. You would still require a
TTL cable link but it has a more elegant shoe than a generic handle might
have. If cost is paramount then have you considered a generic solid grip? I
suspect it would provide better balance than an empty BG1 would. Though that
said there is nothing to stop you from adding weights to it to restore
balance.

Subject: [OM] Off camera grips for e-1 with FL-50
Has anyone used the grip designed for the e-1 to place the flash off camera
or does anyone have any innovative ideas about how to mount/use the FL-50
off
camera. You can read innovative as meaning less than the $650+ Olympus
wants for their grip. I have an old BG1 that I think with a little Dremel
work
could be made to work. The battery compartment is corroded so I would not
really be screwing up a very valuable piece of equipment. I'm thinking of
using
the FL-CB05 cord to attach the flash to the grip. Bill Barber
