Hi all
Sorry to pester OM users with this sort of question ( but I did use both the E-
1 and the OM4Ti in one photo session today and probably took more shots
with the OM. Magnolias are fresh out in bloom and some are glorious.).
Setting white balance has me totally puzzled. Can anybody here give a short
guide? Just a pointer to get me started.
For example, last week I took some shots of my son's flat which is partly
constructed with sawn limestone of a light cream colour. In direct light it
looks almost white, and prints made from such shots give this colour. I took
one close-up shot to show the texture and the saw-cut patterns, and the
combination of me being close to the wall and a garden wall close behind me
reduced the cloud-light access. The print of this shot came out a light muddy
grey. The lab data on the reverse of the prints indicate no in-lab
manipulation.
Without using a white-card, what should I have done to foresee this and
compensate for the lessened light?
The numbers in the WB menu mean almost nothing to me and the (RTFM)
Manual either the printed form of the PDF file say nothing of use that I could
see.
In contrast, since I just learned that a friend has bought a N*k*n D70 (this is
the friend who asked about digital some 2 - 3 months ago - actually his
employer bought it - the USDAFS); so I had a quick look on Google findings
to see what sort of camera it is, and the D70 white balance menu contains
such entries as "cloudy" "sunny" and so on.
Cheers, Brian
