The good news, Bob, is that many of us can relate to what happened to you. At
least you knew what was likely going to be the outcome ahead of time, and
didn't suffer a nervous breakdown.
The closest I came to a similar fate was when I was asked to "come early to
the house" of a friend's sister's wedding. ( The friend's son had played
football with my son, and I had taken some digital action shots they liked, as
well
as shooting the kids' basketball team group picture) Upon my arrival, a
camcorder i had never seen before was thrust at me, inside it's gadget bag, and
I
was told I had to shoot the wedding and reception, and, to make matters worse,
I was told to "go follow that limo (bride and groom) and get video of it's
arrival at the hall." All in all, results were not bad, given the fact that I
had no tripod, no spare battery ( had to get one DURING the reception) and no
time to familiarize myself with the gear, nor to scout the place first for best
angles, etc. A couple of scenes were a slight bit jumpy, no doubt from my
rapid heartbeat.
