I sent an e-mail to the Georgia Department of Revenue to ask about this, not
that whatever their answer might be would make the slightest bit of difference
in my tax-paying habits and procedures. Here 'tis:
"From: Walt Wayman [mailto:hiwayman@xxxxxxx]

Subject: Sales or use tax on out-of-state purchases
"Is it true that if I buy something by phone, internet or mail order from
an out-of-state retailer who does not collect Georgia sales tax that I
am required to pay the Georgia sales or use tax on the amount of the
purchase? And if so, how would I go about doing that?
And here's their response:
"Yes, any person or business who makes a purchase of goods that are
brought into Georgia and the appropriate Georgia sales or use tax has
not been paid to the supplier. You may access additional information and
the form at: http://www.etax.dor.ga.gov/salestax/st3forms/st-3use.pdf
"Thank you for your inquiry."
I hope they won't be holding their breath waiting on me to comply. I really,
really don't see that happening, not today, not tomorrow, not even when the
helicopters land on my roof. Like we say around here, F**k 'em if they can't
take a joke.
