A circular polarizer would probably be worse. The light exiting from it no
longer has a single plane of polarization. As Winsor mentioned more surfaces
give more opportunities for undesired reflections.
It would seem that a linear polarizer could in some instances reduce
reflections. The light waves would still be polarized into a single plane by
the polarizer when they hit the lens elements. The angle that causes a
reflection varies with polarization. So if the polarization blocks the off
axis light causing the worst reflections, you should come out ahead.
Interesting idea.
