I was at SeaWorld last week, helping out my sister's class trip. At one of
the shows, where the fish do their jumping and splashing trick, they were
going counterclockwise all the time, and I'd anticipate it and duck my
gear (OM1n, 35-70/3.6 zuiko) inside a bag (sitting in row 5; 1-16 are
"soak zones") and had it safe for most of the show. However, one of the
penultimate tricks, the orca went clockwise around the pool, starting
nearest *MY* end. All I saw was a wall of water coming at me. Naturally I
got quite soaked with salt water, and by the time I was moving the camera,
it too got a good splashing. Immediately I wiped off the top cover and
lens barrel. they weren't nearly as soaked as I was, but they definitely
had a good spraying of salt water. Superficially I had it wiped, mild salt
evaporation stains showed up soon thereafter, which were again wiped off
with a napkin moistened w/ fresh water.
Assuming it got sprayed but not soaked through, what are the odds any of
it made it inside the top cover, or dare I say, into the lens (my fav
lens!)? The second OM1n I have needs a CLA as the meter needs to be set to
1.55, so perhaps this would be a good time to send both in to John... or
should I? Given that another OM1n body can be had for about the same price
as a full CLA? Tomorrow I'll run through a roll of film (my last roll of
NPS, in fact, from the few bricks bought last year) and see what happens.
the SeaWorld shots came out OK, no water made it inside film chamber.
