Couldn't possibly be that chip unless it is a whole new, and larger,
camera. The Stylus 500 uses a 1/2.5" sensor, with a size of 5.7x4.3mm.
The 4/3" sensor in the E-300 is 18x13.5mm. Tere is no way the lens from
the Stylus 500 could cover more than the central third of the bigger
sensor.
As it turns out, it is only a tiny bit bigger and heavier and does have
a larger sensor than the 500, 7.2x5.3mm, and appears to have a new lens

interesting innovations, depending on how well they work. Lowering
resolution to increase sensitivity without increasing noise can make
sense when yo start with 8mp on a P&S
