[OM] OM-1 mercury cells / adapter / recalibration

Subject: [OM] OM-1 mercury cells / adapter / recalibration

I am about to send my father's OM-1 off for a CLA. The old chestnut of
the battery "issue" reared its head.

Both my father an I have a good stock of mercury cells in the fridge,
hence we have no *need* for an adapter / re-calibration. This being the
case, is it better to leave it at 1.35V? Or is it better to do something
whilst it's in for the service anyway?

Assuming a switch to 1.55V silver cells, is a re-calibration better, or
is it better to use an adapter? I'm not an electronics expert, but IIRC
the 1.55V cells drop in voltage over time, whereas the 1.35V cells stay
constant almost till the end. This being the case, surely a
re-calibration will mean the camera will give false readings as soon as
the voltage drops slightly below 1.55V, whereas with an adapter reducing
the voltage to 1.35V that voltage of 1.35V would stay constant until the
1.55V cell was flat. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Thanks in advance.

Simon
