I had a fondling session at my local Jessops last week, and the Minolta 7D
was one of the DSLRs that I fondled.  It is larger and heavier than most
DSLRs intended for the advanced amateur.  Superficially it looks complex,
due to the numerous controls distributed over its body, but that actually
makes it easy to use, as the important controls are accessible directly via
switches and buttons rather than menus.

But the thing that put me off was the fact that the manual-focus ring
rotates as the lens autofocuses.  You don't get that with Canon EOS or
Olympus E-system.  Minolta do have the technology to stop the manual-focus
ring rotating during autofocus (some lenses that they released in 2000 have
this), but the Minolta "digital ready" lenses released at the same time as
the 7D don't use this technology, probably because they are (allegedly)
rebadged Tamron lenses.
