Folks,
A couple of comments:
In the recent thread on antivirus-software, increasingly detailed
references to how one could acquire illegally copied / pirated versions
of commercial anti-virus software were posted.
Using illegal/pirated software is a personal choice, and I do not want
to impose on anyone on the list how they think and feel about it, or if
they use it personally.
However I will *not* accept when ways of pirating software is discussed
on the list!
It's my name on the contract with the ISP, and I'd not like to be
dragged into court for "running a list discussing pirated software /
warez". So is it too much to ask that the above be respected?
One of the offending individuals this time was, on Feb 27 2005, given a
warning for exactly the same situation. He was instructed not to do
such again, and agreed at the time. Seeing that this did not help, I am
inclined to "ask" this individual to cease posting to the list.
Since we're not in the habit of excluding listees (I think it's
happened once before, although for entirely different reasons), I
thought I'd toss this email/explanation out on the list to ensure
complete openness.

For the record: my own point of view is, that one should respect the
licensing conditions of the author of the software, and I do not
personally use any pirated software whatsoever. Most of what I need is
available free (www.gimp.org, www.openoffice.org and so on) -- and what
I can't get legally for free (say, iWorks), I either pay for or I don't
use it.
