Travel advisories issued by governments are usually very conservative.
Better safe than sorry. I'd advise, in addition to the US State
Dept's advice, to consider these sources:
Canada: http://www.voyage.gc.ca/consular_home-en.asp
Britain: http://www.fco.gov.uk
And be sure to consult non-governmental travel resources; especially
accounts from recent visitors.
