Andrew,

I'd like to have a go. For what it's worth, I'd go for the "Trip" rather
than the XA1 - whatever that may be :-)

Subject: [OM] Sending an Olympus on a world trip

Hi all,

While browsing photo.net tonight I came across an idea called "Camera
travels the world"
Thread 1: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BKYf
Thread 2: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BLLX
Thread 3: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BMP0
Thread 4: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BOgr

A similar thing has also been done by the Rangefinder Forum in their "Pass
the Camera" project:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=50778#post50778
(with which I see Natalia is involved)

And I've noticed that some Minolt* aficionados have done a similar thing.

How about we do a similar thing and send an Olympus on a world tour? After
all, we can't have those Minolt* guys and gals getting all the glory now
can we? ;-)

Here's some basic rules that I've thought up (comments welcome):

Each participant has the camera for three days.
Subject matter is open - anything goes.
Each participant supplies a film of their choice and develops it at their
expense.
Participant picks four images, scans them and emails them to me for
inclusion on a website.
Participant mails the camera (at their expense) on to the next person on
the list.

I have two cameras that I think would be candidates. My first thought was
to send a Trip 35 on the tour because of it's name, cheapness, reliabilty,
ease of use and no battery to worry about. The only downside could be it's
weight. My second choice is an XA1 which wins on all points except for the
natty name but it scores better on weight. I own an example of both of
these models and I'd be happy to contribute one to the project.

The "Camera travels the world" and "Pass the Camera" projects each have a
guestmap that enables participants to place a "pin" on a map to show the
camera's progress around the globe. I think this is a cool idea for us to
implement as well.

I would be happy to organise the project, create the website and the
guestmap, and donate the camera.

So here's some questions I'd like answered:

Should we do this?
What camera should we use?
What do you think about the rules - discussion is most welcome.
And finally...who wants to participate?

Regards,
Andrew McPhee
