John, I don't know if Lithium would be faster than etc etc. In my
experience with the M18v grip, the lithium AA batteries certainly last
longer than anything else - but that is not the charateristic required in
this case (seems like you need maximum speed for a relatively short burst).
If thatis so, I strongly suggest you try a fourth battery technology - lead
acid!
The cells are not expensive, easily charged, hold their charge, and have
relatively enormous capacity, eg 6V 12Ah - yes, that is 12 _Amp_Hour,
compared to 2.6 Ah from the best rechargeables.
I have a pair, so that I can power the modelling lights on a macro flash,
power a winder, or (by connecting them in series) power a motor drive. The
downside is that they are somewhat heavy!

Subject: [OM] Winder 2 speed
Over the years I have been on this list I have read of the many tests that
people have done on cameras, lens and film. I am now wondering if anyone
has tested the various types of batteries and their effect on the speed that
a winder 2 advances the film. Would nickel hydride be faster than alkaline
and would lithium be faster yet? In case you are wondering why I care
