It's also taking a long time to get packages from the US into Canada because
of customs delays. I don't know which side of the border causes the problem
but I suspect it's some of both. /jmac

Subject: [OM] Re: (OM) Shipping costs from North America ( OT?)
Canadian here. I've been thinning my collection, selling off cameras
and lenses to various people around the globe, and I can testify that
Canadian shipping prices are outrageous. Several of the buyers
questioned the rates. Because these were not eB'y sales, I split the
Paypal into two parts for them -- one for the item and a followup
payment for the exact shipping charge. It's a cost I have to pass on.
When they saw the postage on the package they agreed I was not making
this up.
Weight and size are both factors and the rate scale escalates quickly.
It's embarrassing. When I receive packages from the US I'm always
envious of the LOW amount of postage on the package.
And it's not just international shipping. I sent a little wrist strap
to a colleague in Edmonton (I'm near Toronto). Tiny little box. Not
even air mail and the thing weighed only a few ounces. Bam! $8.00
postage.
