I should have gone further with the tripod thing. I travel with a little table
top thing that is make by hakuba, I think. It is a VERY small ball head atop a
plastic cylinder that contains two metal legs. The legs screw into the lower
part of the "head" with the plastic cylinder making the third leg. I have found
that it will provide all the advantages of a flimsy tripod, as there is almost
always some ledge or something that it can be set on, it fits in a pocket, and
cost $10 at B&H. Wouldn't travel without it.
