After viewing Richard's image yesterday morning on my newly calibrated
monitor, I set about posting a rather detailed critique. My critique
expressed
views which were not universally supported by others . . . in fact they were
not supported at all. Life has taught me that when I am the only dissenting
opinion, perhaps a second look is in order. Upon my arrival at my office, I
fired up the office PC, pulled up Richard's posting and printed the image.
OK,
lets take a push pen and put this on the wall for a bit. The print was made
on my new inexpensive multipurpose HP psc 1315 and it looked pretty decent.
The snow that had no detail in some areas on my home monitor, did have
detail in this print on copy paper. The image that had little depth when
viewed
on the computer, exhibited a great deal of depth and pulled me into the scene
the more I looked at it. The more I engaged the print the more I liked it.
Richard and I have exchanged email off list about my assessment of his
photograph and where each of us are with our photography. Not too surprising,
we
are pretty close in what we seek from our work.
What I would like to do here is to publicly apologize to Richard and this
list for being a little too quick to shoot from the hip. I regret having
stirred up or given any energy to any bad feelings. That was not my intent
and
wish I had given the image and myself a little more time. Bill Barber
