The koi photo I posted yesterday was taken at the Pagoda Hotel, a nice but
cheap hotel favored by locals. It has a trademark "lagoon" that's really
like a big aquarium for the koi. Very nicely maintained. The fact that it
is shallow also enhances your ability to see the fish clearly, and that's
also why they look like they are climbing over one another. They are quite
a bit of the time.
The photo above is from a park owned by a private family but open to the
public called Moanalua Gardens. They don't allow professional photography
in the park. Translation: no tripods. Not sure what the fuss
is. Japanese tourists come to the park in limousines and take pictures of
the enormous monkey pod trees. One of the trees is apparently famous in
Japan because of a commercial or something.
I didn't use the polarizer and wish I had. It was quite shadowy though.
