One factor nobody has mentioned is dimensional format. Since
he'll be shooting for presentation, it is best to use an aspect
ratio that matches it.
Therefore: 2/3" sensor or 4/3" sensors.
However, he indicated an age induced downgrading of visual
accutance. Except for the Minolta A2, I wouldn't recommend any
2/3" sensor because of the viewfinders. Hence he'd need a
glass-prism viewfinder DSLR.
Also, it sounds like an outdoor application. Therefore
ruggedness and weather-proofing wouldn't be a bad thing.
Microscope adaptation? Hmm. Isn't there a lot of old telescope
and microscope adaptors for OM mount?
Personally, I think the solution is a slam-dunk.
Olympus E-1.
Noise at ISO 400 is a non issue for presentation purposes where
the images are all downsized to around 1280 or 1040 pixel width.
5MP is more than enough for this application.
Best of all, the price is getting to be quite acceptable.
