None other than the esthetics of appearance of the lens. This was
srtictly an appearance/marketing change.
However, the switch from black to silver nose roughly coincided in time
with the technically meaningful change from single-coated to
multi-coated lenses. Obscure quirks and minority opinions aside, it may
be generally be considered, all other things being equal, that MC is
likely to be a bit better than SC in the areas of flare resistance and
