Winsor complained about Panasonic quality.
Winsor, With these Japanese conglomerates it is hard to make a conclusion about
all company products based on say consumer retail samples. Panasonic is of
course an Electronics brandname for Masushita industries. Panasonic oem
battery division for example is massive, so it is very likely many of the
batteries that come with equipment you already own, are actually Panasonic. In
the case of the Li-ion batteries/cells for example , Panasonic bought a Li-ion
vendor (Melcotec) some years ago to get into the market. Many cell phones
(like Nokia) have Panasonic batteries, even though they may have to compete
with Panasonic making cell phones or other equipment. Panasonic also oems
very large quatities of capacitors, resistors transistors etc so again many
products you own that are not Panasonic, will contain parts by Panasonic. Look
through the Digikey.com online catalog to get a flavour of how large an oem
they are.
The other thing these conglomerates do is segment the market by selling under
various other "upscale" brandnames and charging more for rather modest
improvements. An audio retail example would be Technics.
By chance, just before posting this I was repairing a battery pack for a Sears
electric handdrill, which has Panasonic cells in it!
